Understanding GSM

What is Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause?

When estrogen levels decline during and after menopause, the vaginal and urinary tissue can thin, lose elasticity, and stop producing natural moisture. This condition — known as GSM — affects up to 50% of postmenopausal women and, unlike hot flashes, does not improve on its own.

Common symptoms include:

Both the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend low-dose vaginal estrogen as first-line therapy for GSM.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is compounded estrogen & progesterone cream?

Compounded estrogen & progesterone cream is a prescription medication prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy based on a physician's prescription. It contains estradiol (the same form of estrogen naturally produced by the body) and progesterone. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. They are prepared by an FDA-registered 503A/503B compounding pharmacy.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. A valid prescription from a licensed physician is always required before any medication is dispensed. A licensed provider in our network will review your health information and, if appropriate, issue a prescription. Vyoni does not sell medication without a prescription.

Is this the same as HRT?

No. Systemic hormone replacement therapy (HRT) delivers hormones throughout the body via pills or patches. Topical vaginal estrogen is applied locally, acts on vaginal and urethral tissue, and has minimal systemic absorption. Many women who cannot or choose not to use systemic HRT may be candidates for topical vaginal estrogen. Your prescribing physician will determine what's appropriate for you.

How quickly will I see results?

Individual results vary. Some women notice improvement in dryness and comfort within 4–6 weeks, with further improvement possible over 3–6 months of consistent use. Results are not guaranteed, and continued use is typically needed to maintain benefits.

What if I'm not a candidate?

If our physicians determine that prescription estrogen & progesterone cream is not appropriate for your situation, you will not be charged. The eligibility questionnaire and physician review are free if no prescription is issued.

Which states do you serve?

Vyoni currently serves patients in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia through our network of licensed physicians and partner pharmacy.
